Insanity Fit Test No. 2.....Two steps forwards three steps back?

Today was my fit test day. I actually wanted to take a nap when baby was having a nap during the day then dragged myself out of bed to do the fit test. Why? Because I promised myself I would stop procrastinating, that saying I will do it later on in the day wasn't good enough.

So here are my stats:

WEEK 3

SWITCH KICKS - 108
POWER JACKS - 59
POWER KNEES - 110
POWER JUMPS - 31
GLOBE JUMPS - 11
SUICIDE JUMPS - 20
PUSH JACKS - 30
LOW PLANK OBLIQUES - 79

WEEK 1

SWITCH KICKS - 115
POWER JACKS - 55
POWER KNEES - 100
POWER JUMPS - 30
GLOBE JUMPS - 9
SUICIDE JUMPS - 18
PUSH JACKS - 20
LOW PLANK OBLIQUES - 56

Improvement in all but the switch kicks. I have no idea what is happening with those and have to consciously work on that during the workouts. I must admit they are not my favourite, but as boxer says...I will work harder (animal farm).

I searched to see what other bloggers were saying about month 2 insanity...it's supposed to get brutal. I am not using any supplements and have mentioned before on here that I am debating whether they are worth the trouble. I don't watch my diet as such but I do eat mostly home cooked meals which are wholesome. I have a little daughter whom I am trying to teach good eating habits, I have to have those good habits too. In month two, I think I will add a protein smoothie as an after workout drink and see if it helps my performance.

In other news I haven't kicked my chocolate habit....Hello, I'm a MisFit...and I'm an addict.

Have an active day will you?

  1. Hey Miss Fit!

Firstly I'd like to thank you for your encouraging posts. When I found your page on facebook I was elated. Finally a "relatable" Kenyan fitness page by a woman.. I was instantly a follower and I have never regretted.

I started working out in January this year after a routine visit to the doctors had my weigh in at 76kgs!!! o.O
I am 5 foot 3". So that was quite over weight. My BMI was narrowly missed the obese side. This is the heaviest I have ever been :-( and I can't blame it on anything like hormones because I'm childless. It was just from utter disregard of my health.
I decided to take matters in my own hands and trust me it wasn't easy. I'm not quite the gym rat and not really good at running. I did what I love to do best walking and hiking. It worked for the first few kilos but I wasn't getting me the results I expected.
After watching a couple of seasons of The Biggest Loser for motivation, and seeing all those super overweight guys turn into lean mean machines, I knew anyone could do it.
I got myself the Biggest Loser work out dvds, then graduated to Jillian Michaels work out dvds. All I can say is I'm loving the results! By April I was able to hike Mt. Kenya and reach the highest point (4950m high) in four days! This is me who couldn't even climb two flights of stairs to my office without feeling like my lungs were being ripped out of my chest.

Right now I weigh 60kgs :-) I feel great. Loads of energy and I can wear all my small jeans once again, easily work out for an hour without feeling like I'm going to die.. Did the 10 km Mater Heart Run in one hour!!

However just like you, as Robert would allude, working out has become an obsession. It's no longer about health but a vanity of sorts. My biggest goal is to kick off at least 10 more kgs! So this week I got me.... (drumrolls please)Shaun T's Insanity..
Did my first fit test today and tomorrow June the 1st I begin my day 1 of the 60 day programme. I agree it's quite challenging but I love that about it! I had started to get bored of my routine workouts and my body had gotten so used to them that my muscles wouldn't feel the challenge.:-/

I'm going to watch my diet because in as much as i don't do fries except on one cheat day a week (surely weekends are for indulgence ;-))The last few kilos are usually the hardest to lose and I need to see results. Will probably start running after the 60 days as I also hope to complete the 21km Stanchart marathon in October..
Wish me luck. Will keep you posted.

PS: I see you're already in Month 2. You're my fitspiration :) All the best!

    1. What a nice post right here! I get so happy when someone like you posts and you 'get' where I am coming from and why I do what I do. All the best with insanity. I have two weeks to go and it's the most difficult program I have undertaken. I am planning on doing assylum next and even P90X but will decide next week whether I take a break and go back to weights for a while.
I have learned not to be ashamed of liking the looking good result of working out, you have worked so hard for it, dress it up! You're taking care of your body, you only have one of it and the earlier you start the better! Plus you don't have kids, so you're at an advantage. Starting before makes it easier to get back in shape after kids so don't quit! All the best and would love it if you kept in touch even if it is to rant about the number of push ups you have to do with Shaun T's plyo workouts. :-)

  2. Hello ladies!!!!How amazing is it to get Kenyan ladies on this fitness band wagon??All I can say is thank you. Miss Fit you look amazing... :-) I like...
Mara Moja I resonate with your experiences. I am currently 80kgs and going thru some form of depression. I am in an industry where image is everything so those 80kgs dont work for me. Also i am not happy with my body..My boobies have grown so big and my tummy is right next to them. But i shall say that I have taken control of my life. I do not do gyms. I am claustophobic so I got my former gym trainer to be coming home where we train..We do run for about twenty minutes round the neighbourhood then come back home and lift what Miss Fit calls girly weightd as well as skip, boxing and a few aerobic moves. I enjoy these sessions...there are days I feel like killing him cause he comes at 5am and now that it is cold, getting put of bed is hard. But I sm grateful for the two days we work out. My biggest challenge is actually doing these things on my own...I can never wake up and say today I will go running or I will skip or lift weights. So my question to you ladirs is apart from the sexy bod pics what kept you going when you started out??I know I want a beautiful for my birthday by the time I hit my 29th birthday in December cause I plan to wear a bikini all day rain or shine... ;-) So if you could help me out I would really appreciate...
My eating habits are getting better..I have adopted the eat small portions thru out the day and loads of water. It is hard but the fact that I haven't had a chocolate chip cookie milkshake in almost two months is a big avhievement to me...;-) I have also learnt how to include raw vegetables in my meals. It is not easy, but i am trying..
I hope to get responses from you bellas as we continue in this journey of getting sex bods..Also miss fit, have a post that tells us more on what resistance training is,what are power jacks, switch kicks, power knees, globe jumps...etc...would really appreciate...
To a beautiful journey ahead my bellas...

    1. No worries on spellings, at least it's not sms speak which takes me ages to decipher. MissKaey starting is the hardest bit. Running at 5 am? You are strong! The cold at that hour would put me off anytime!
What keeps us going? Speaking for myself...proving to myself and others that I can do it. I take things personally, it's not healthy, but I've always done it. My neighbour once commented about my 'pot belly' after I had my daughter. Forgetting that she was still an infant and I had a CS birth...and I didn't have four nannies like Beyonce. I took it personally. My mom laughed at me when my trousers split as I was getting out of the car, I took it personally. The best thing you can do when others put you down or make fun of you is not to retort, it is to succeed. Also it made me realise I can do a lot more. I am more confident as a person now. he he he, I'll post more on exercises, I want to start making short videos but with the kind of workouts I'm doing making a video after the workout proves difficult because I'm exhausted! However, I will try. Thanks a lot for posting, you made my night. I would love to hear of your progress. Take a photo, neck down if you have to, as your "before" photo then we shall talk about the after in a few months :-)
